"As a stallion, Sky Mesa has as rich a gene pool as one can find. Armed with a son of Seattle Slew in his pedigree, and daughters of Mr. Prospector and Storm Cat, Sky Mesa offers a goldmine of potentially explosive link-ups. Likewise, any or all of his linebreedings to Secretariat, Bold Ruler, Round Table, Raise a Native, and Northern Dancer will prove to be useful upgrades in his matings. Hešs also linebred to the broodmares Knightšs Daughter and Busanda, the female line ancestors of his sire and dam respectively. Sky Mesa goes back in tail-female to a half-sister to Buckpasser, from the La Troienne family. Itšs hard to top that package."

Sky Mesa debuted opening week at Saratoga, where he ran off and hid from a high class field by 7 3/4 lengths in 1:10 4/5. In an unusual move, his ultra conservative trainer John Ward entered him in the Grade I Hopeful Stakes.
The roster of Hopeful winners includes Secretariat, Affirmed, Buckpasser, Hail to Reason, Native Dancer, and Nashua, each a Hall of Fame member in the pedigree or family of Sky Mesa.
It would take Sky Mesa just one minute and 23 seconds to add his name to that illustrious group. Sky Mesa next won the $400,000 Breedersš Futurity-G2 by four lengths in his first try around two turns. Sky Mesa completed his juvenile campaign with three wins in three starts, and a 122 rank on the Experimental Free Handicap, third best of his
generation.
A series of minor ailments derailed Sky Mesa's Classic aspirations, but he re-emerged on the racetrack in early summer, posting game efforts in the Dwyer-G2 and $1,000,000 Haskell-G1, where he defeated dual Classic winner Funny Cide by more than seven lengths. Sky Mesa racked up back-to-back Triple Digit Beyers, including a 108, before an ankle injury put a halt to his racing days.
Sky Mesa went to stud as a Grade I winner of $633,076,
victorious in one of the key sire-making races of all time, and with a pedigree that veritably screams "sire power."
Pulpit is the most successful son of A.P. Indy at stud, and he will stand the 2008 season for $80,000. Caress, a triple Graded stakes winner of $666,076, defeated colts in New York and ran a mile at Belmont in record time--1:32.53. Her full brother Bernstein has sired 49 stakes horses in his
first four crops.
Sky Mesašs second dam is a three quarter sister to
champion Outstandingly, and his fourth is a half sister to Buckpasser. This is the famed family of *La Troienne.
The first weanlings, yearlings, and two-year-olds by Sky Mesa all have averaged six-figures. In 2007, his 25
two-year-olds in training averaged $204,734, led by colts who brought $700,000 and $650,000.
Buyers of his progeny include a veritable whošs who of industry stalwarts, led by John Ferguson, W.S. Farish, Shadwell Estate Co., Anthony Stroud, John Sadler, Mike Ryan, John Oxley, Glen Hill Farm, Eugenio Colombo, Cobra Farm, and Whitehorse Stables.
Sky Mesa is the complete sire package: race record, great looks, sire's family, pure pedigree.
