Sky Mesa got his second TDN Rising Star of 2015 on Monday when first time starter Ami’s Mesa rolled to an eight length victory in a seven furlong maiden special weight contest for 2-year-old fillies at Woodbine.

Consigned to be stuck between horses several lengths off the lead after getting away in leisurely fashion, Ami’s Mesa settled into a comfortable stride until she got a nudge from Luis Contreras with about three furlongs to run. In just a few strides, the dark bay filly had taken over the top spot and never looked back, winning in ultra-impressive fashion in 1:23.50 on the Polytrack.

Ami’s Mesa was the milestone 100th winner of 2015 for Sky Mesa and could be destined to join his list of six stakes winners this year.

Trained by Josie Carroll for Ivan Dalos, Ami’s Mesa was bred in Canada by Tall Oaks Farm. Out of the stakes-winning mare Victorious Ami, she is a half-sister to 2013 Grey S. (G3) winner Ami’s Holiday, who also finished second in the 2014 Queen’s Plate (G1).
