Sky Mesa’s multiple stakes winner Ami’s Mesa won her second straight graded stakes on Saturday at Woodbine in the $125,000 Seaway S. (G3), powering home a 6 1/4-length winner in the seven furlong contest.
As she did in her Ontario Matron (G3) win last month, Ami’s Mesa sat mid-pack before unleashing her kick just before entering the stretch, blowing by the leaders to leave the field in her wake as she coasted under the finish line in 1:22.17.
“I got a perfect trip and I let her make a move from the middle of the turn and she just smoked everyone,” said jockey Luis Contreras after the race.
Bred in Ontario by Tall Oaks Farm, the Victorious Ami filly earned her third win in as many starts this year and fifth victory overall. She has banked almost $291,803 in eight races for owner Ivan Dalos.
“I think she’s as good as she can be. I thought she was explosive today,” said her trainer Josie Carroll. “These nice horses don’t come along too often, I’m very fortunate.”
Sky Mesa’s runners have made more than $3 million and won eight stakes this year.
