Ami’s Mesa turned in the best performance of her career Monday at Presque Isle Downs with a track record-setting performance in the $400,800 Presque Isle Masters S. (G2).

The 4-year-old Sky Mesa filly has been perfect in 2017, winning all four of her starts, three in graded stakes. She was won six of nine starts overall and banked $531,803 for owner/breeder Ivan Dalos.

Cavalia and Bar of Gold took the field through the first half-mile in :45.18, with Ami’s Mesa three and four wide about four lengths from the leaders. Despite the wide trip, the eventual winner loomed up at the top of the stretch, took the lead willing and was drawing away when she hit the wire a length in from of Bar of Gold (VIDEO).

The final time of 1:14.68 for the 6 1/2-furlongs bested the previous mark set by champion Groupie Doll.

“She was really sharp today – I can’t believe how sharp she was today,” jockey Luis Contreras said of Ami’s Mesa. “The gates opened, and she put herself in a great position, so I just kept her there and happy, tried not to get in trouble in the race.”

Bred in Ontario by Dalos’ Tall Oaks Farm, Ami’s Mesa is out of the stakes-winning Victorious Ami, a daughter of Victory Gallop who is also the dam of Grade 3 winner Ami’s Holiday and the stakes-placed Victory Exchange.

Sky Mesa is the sire of nine North American stakes winners this year, while in just the past week the Three Chimneys stallion had two stakes winners, Ami’s Mesa and Mighty Mesa, and the stake-placed mare Paige.
