Sharp Azteca got his third stakes winner on Oct. 14 at Delaware Park when Alma Rosa drew off to a 3 ¼-length victory in the $100,000 White Clay Creek S.
The 2-year-old filly, who was second in the Sorority S. in August, is one of six stakes horses for Sharp Azteca. The Three Chimneys stallion leads the First-Crop sire list with 23 individual winners and 29 wins, and is in the top five by earnings, stakes winners and stakes horses.
Alma Rosa was covered up behind horses for the first six furlongs of Friday’s one-mile race. She shot through a narrow opening between horses at the top of the stretch, then put away Crypto Mama with a furlong to go and pulled away easily to secure the win in 1:39.95 over a muddy racetrack.
“I have had her since she was a baby and she always has done everything perfect,” said winning trainer Bernardo G. Lopez. “She makes doing my job very easy. I am not sure where we are going to next. We have many options and I will talk it over with everyone.”
Alma Rosa is owned and bred by Gelfenstein Farm. She is 2-2-0 in four starts and has earned $147,500.
