Prince Abu Dhabi won his fourth straight start with a come-from-behind tally in the $100,000 California Derby on April 29 at Golden Gate Fields.
The 3-year-old son of Palace Malice was making his stakes debut in the 1 1/16-mile contest and came away with a half-length win to keep his record intact.
The bay was last going into the first turn after breaking from the outside in the field of nine. After falling some 10 lengths off the lead, he cut the margin in half by the time he entered the final turn. He was in heavy traffic on the bend and ultimately had to switch to the four path in upper stretch for clear running. He flew past Harcyn with less than a furlong to run and held off Phosporescence (FR) to secure the victory.
