Gun Runner’s yearlings topped Monday’s opening-day session of the 2020 Keeneland January sale for all Freshman Sires, with a pair of colts bringing $300,000 and $290,000.
Leading the way was hip No. 397, a March foal who has already been named Quick Trigger. Consigned by Select Sales, agent, the chestnut juvenile was purchased by Oxo Equine, LLC. The colt is the third foal from the stakes-placed mare Onna Bugeisha, who is a half-sister to multiple graded winner Tazeez.
Earlier during the session, hip No. 69 from Denali Stud, agent, went to de Meric Stables, agent for $290,000. A dark bay, the colt is out of the multiple stakes performer Sunday Sonnet. She is a half-sister to multiple graded winner Pianist.
When asked what he liked about the dark bay, Nick de Meric said to the TDN, “Everything. He is a beautifully balanced, smooth, athletic colt. He is by a young sire that I think has a tremendously bright future. He is a sire that is already turning heads and I think the best is yet to come for him.”
Gun Runner’s first foals are yearlings of 2020. After breeding more than 340 mares in his first two seasons, the former Horse of the Year will stand for $70,000 this season at Three Chimneys.
