Sky Treasure’s last-to-first move in the Kentucky Downs stretch carried the 5-year-old daughter to a nose victory in the $300,000 Kentucky Downs Ladies Sprint S. on Monday afternoon (VIDEO).

Winner of the Nassau S. (G2) at Woodbine in May, Sky Treasure is one of Sky Mesa’s 17 black type horses in 2015. The Three Chimney’s stallion has progeny earnings of nearly $4 million this year.

Sky Treasure settled in the back of the pack after breaking from post nine and was unhurried around the big bend on the Kentucky Downs turf. Still near the back with a quarter mile to run, Julien Leparoux fanned some eight wide to swoop past most of the field, then went nose-to-nose with Seeking Treasure in the final strides, winning by the narrowest of margins in 1:19.83 for the 6 ½-furlongs on the rain-softened turf.

Sky Treasure’s big payday upped her lifetime earnings to $491,092, with a mark of 5-2-2 in 17 starts.

Bred in Kentucky by Edward Seltzer, Sky Treasure is owned by John Oxley, who picked her out of the 2012 Keeneland 2-year-olds in training sale for $175,000.
