Jantar Mantar (JPN), a 2-year-old Palace Malice colt, won for the second time in as many starts on Nov. 11 at Kyoto Racecourse in Japan, scoring a two-length victory in the Daily Hai Nisai S. (G2).
After winning his Oct. 8 debut over the same track, Jantar Mantar was the post-time favorite in the 1,600-meter race. After breaking from post 2, he quickly made his way over the inside rail to take up a tracking position a few lengths from the lead. He held his spot until entering the homestretch, when he came through a narrow opening to take the lead about a furlong from the wire. He finished very nicely, drawing away in deep stretch to finish the distance in 1:34.50 on a “good” turf course.
Jantar Mantar was bred and is owned by Shadai Farm. The bay colt is the first foal out of India Mantuana, who won the Red Carpet H. (G3) at Del Mar and placed in three additional stakes.
Palace Malice got a weekend juvenile double in Japan when, on the day following Jantar Mantar’s win, Noble Roger won a 1,600 meter maiden race at Toyko Racecourse in his career debut. Owned by Normandy Thoroughbred Racing and bred in Kentucky by Candy Meadows LLC,
