Sky Mesa’s graded stakes-winning filly My Impression won the fourth black type race of her career Wednesday at Kentucky Downs with a come-from-behind victory in the $150,000 One Dreamer S. (VIDEO).
Winner of a trio of stakes, including the Commonwealth Oaks (G3), as a 3-year-old, My Impression upped her record to 6-2-1 in 14 starts for owner/breeder Stuart Janney III and trainer Shug McGaughey.
My Impression broke very well, but Tyler Gaffalione let the 4-year-old filly settle back off the pace in fifth as the field made its way around the sweeping far turn. Coming into the three-furlong stretch, My Impression began her move, splitting horses, then going five-wide in the final furlong to run past a trio of foes, winning by 1 ½-lengths in 1:49.25 for the mile and 70 yards on the “good” turf.
“I just started to let her run just inside the quarter-pole,” said Gaffalione. “When I put her outside she just rebroke, basically.”
My Impression, who also placed in this year’s James Penny Memorial S. (G3), is Sky Mesa’s eighth stakes winner of 2017, and his third added-money winner of the past 10 days.
