Three Chimneys Farm will host its January 2024 open house and stallion showcase Monday through Thursday, January 8-11.
The farm’s four stallions, headlined by the Gun Runner, the leading Thrid -Crop sire and top-five General Sire of 2023, will be available for inspection each day from 10:00 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Gun Runner, who was the champion sire of his generation each of the past three years, had a remarkable 2023 with $17,657,705 in progeny earnings, third-most on the General Sire list. He accounted for three Grade 1 winners, a dozen graded winners and had 35 stakes horses total. His average earnings per starter of $87,414 was the highest of any stallion in North America. Gun Runner’s 2024 fee is $250,000 live foal, stands and nurses.
Volatile, the winner of the Alfred G. Vanderbilt S. (G1) and the fastest sprinter of 2020, will be represented by his first 2-year-olds in 2024. In the sales ring, Volatile was one of only two First-Crop sires to have a seven-figure yearling, and his yearling sale price to stud fee ratio was the highest of any top-10 First-Crop sire. Volatile stands for $15,000.
Funtastic, who stands for $5,000, is a half-brother to Horse of the Year Saint Liam as well as the dam of Gun Runner. A Grade 1 winner at 11 furlongs, Funtastic’s Funtastic Again won the 2023 Leonatus S. and placed in the Jeff Ruby S. (G3). while the multiple stakes-placed colt First Peace added a victory in the 2023 John Shear S. to his winnings.
Sky Mesa the veteran of the Three Chimney’s roster, has produced five champions, more than 70 stakes winners, and 150 stakes horses lifetime. His percentage of black type horses to starters is higher than Candy Ride (ARG), More Than Ready, Kitten’s Joy, and Street Sense. The sire of Grade 1 winners on every surface, Sky Mesa stands for $10,000 in 2024.
