Workaholic was fifth entering the stretch in Saturday’s $100,000 Cicada S. at Aqueduct, but forged her way to a three-quarter length win over Miss Imperial to give the 3-year-old Sky Mesa filly her first stakes win.
Sitting comfortably off the pace in the early stages, jockey Cory Orm began to urge Workaholic on with about three furlongs to run. Racing well out in the middle of the track, She collared Miss Imperial in mid-stretch to take the lead and finish the six furlongs in 1:13.19 on the fast main track.
“She’s usually a filly that you want on the front end, but there was a lot of speed in the race and she settled very kindly on her own,” said Orm. “On the turn, she really got going and down the lane I was really happy with her. We knew she had it in her [to win a stakes], we’re just pleasantly surprised to finally get it.”
Trained by Laura Wohlers for Jim McIngvale, Workaholic upped her record to 3-4-1 in 10 outings, with earnings of $142,668. The well-traveled filly has raced at eight tracks in her 10 starts.

Bred by Stud TNT, Workaholic’s now 2-year-old half-brother Tomato Bill (More Than Ready) was a $500,000 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga yearling. Her dam Allez Marie, a daughter of GI Kentucky Oaks heroine Summerly (Summer Squall), produced a Nyquist filly last season and was bred back to Three Chimneys’ stallion Strong Mandate.
