With four winners over the past week, Volatile is the hottest horse on the First-Crop sire list. Speed King and Vehemently, both maiden special weight winners in recent days, upped their sire’s number of overall winners to 19, the second-most for any freshman sire of 2024.
Vehemently was a convincing 5 ½-length maiden special weight winner on Halloween at Horseshoe Indianapolis. The bay 2-year-old took over the lead in upper stretch and drew away with ease to win over the sloppy going.
Vehemently is owned by Carrie Brogden, David Menard and Elliott Racing, LLC and was bred by Bob Novak and Nova Stables.
Speed King was a gate-to-wire winner at six furlongs on Nov. 1 at Churchill Downs. Speed King, who was making his racing debut, won by 2 ½-lengths in 1:10.25 over the fast main track. The gray/roan colt was bred by Nancy Shuford and is owned by Triton Thoroughbreds LLC.
