Headline Numbers controlled the pace throughout Saturday’s $150,000 Top Flight S. at Aqueduct, drawing off in the lane to win the nine-furlong affair by 4 ½-lengths under a hand ride.
Unfazed by the off track, the 4-year-old daughter of Gun Runner made the lead early on and led by a half-length after six furlongs in 1:12.31. Heavy favorite Elliptic made her bid on the turn, but Headline Numbers brushed her off at the top of the stretch and won as much the best in 1:51.20 over the sloppy track.
“She ran great,” said winning rider Dylan Davis. “I had to stay with the pony because she’s really anxious and high energy. She broke well, a couple nudges out of there and she took right to it and jumped to the front and took dominance early.”
Headline Numbers is now 3-1-0 in six starts and has earned $225,860 for Klaravich Stables, Inc., who purchased her for $325,000 at the 2022 Keeneland September sale. She was bred in Kentucky by Alter’s Racing Stables, Inc. and is out of Curlin’s Mistress, who is a full sister to multiple graded winner Curlin’s Approval.
Gun Runner now has nine stakes winners in 2025, the most for any North American-based stallion.
