Three Chimneys announces stud fees for 2018

Leading freshman yearling sire Will Take Charge heads the roster at Three Chimneys Farm for the 2018 season with an unchanged fee, it was recently announced. All sires are offered under a live foal stands and nurses contract.

The champion 3-year-old male of 2013, Will Take Charge will remain at $30,000. First yearlings by the son of Unbridled’s Song have been well-received,with an average of $177,103 for 58 sold.

Fellow freshman Strong Mandate will again be priced at $10,000 live foal stands and nurses. The son of Tiznow is coming off excellent yearling sales results, including an $825,000 filly sold at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga selected yearling sale Aug. 8 as Hip 198. With an average of $104,594, Strong Mandate’s 35 yearlings have averaged over 10 times his stud fee.

Multiple grade 1 winner Palace Malice and grade 1-placed Fast Anna, both have first crop weanlings at the fall sales. Their fees will remain at a respective $20,000 and $7,500.

The fee for Sky Mesa, the sire of more than 100 black-type horses and earners of nearly $50 million, will also remain at his 2017 fee of $15,000.

“We have held our stud fees at last year’s prices to give breeders great value again this year,” said Grant Williamson, the farm’s director of stallion nominations and sales. “It is an exciting time at Three Chimneys with the first crops of Strong Mandate and Will Take Charge selling so well at the sales and heading to the track next year.”

Three Chimneys also campaigns multiple grade 1 winner Gun Runner in partnership with Winchell Thoroughbreds.

While final stud plans have not yet been announced for the leading Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) contender, who will target the Jan. 27 Pegasus World Cup Invitational (G1) at Gulfstream Park after his Breeders’ Cup run, Williamson added,”We have high hopes for 2018, and with Gun Runner eventually joining the ranks here at Three Chimneys, the future looks bright.”
