The results of the first night of the Aug. 7-8 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Select Yearlings sale were remarkable for Three Chimneys Farm’s first-crop sire Will Take Charge, with five horses selling for an average of $322,000, topped by a $475,000 colt.
Kerri Radcliffe Bloodstock was the winning bidder on hip No. 107, who was consigned by Dromoland Farm, Inc., agent. Bearing a striking resemblance to his sire, the chestnut youngster is the first foal out of the stakes-winning mare Winter Book, and hails from the same family Mt. Livermore and Star of Gdansk.
Hip No. 20, consigned by St. George Sales, agent, was bid up to $400,000 by Alex and Jo Ann Lieblong. The gray or roan colt is out of the graded stakes-placed Scat Daddy mare Mystic Mama.
Three Chimneys was the winning bidder on both hip No’s. 55 and 102. The former, another colt, went for $300,000 and is a half-brother to the multiple graded winner Notacatbutallama. The latter, a $225,000 filly, is a half-brother to three stakes winners, while his dam, Whichwaydidshego, is a half-sister to multiple track record-setter and sire Fed Biz.
Rounding out the excellent results was hip No. 19, a $210,000 colt that went to Highland Yard LLC. The dark bay is out of the three-time stakes winner Mother Ruth.
Will Take Charge’s sales average of $322,000 is more than 10 times his bred on stud fee of $30,000, which he stood for in the past two seasons as well. He was bred to 144 mares each of his first two years at stud.
