Gun Runner will have starters in three different Breeders’ Cup races during Saturday’s championship day, with Society in the Filly & Mare Sprint (G1), Gunite in the Sprint (G1) and Dreamlike in the Classic (G1).
Society kicks off the action for sire in the day’s fifth race, where she drew post 7 in the nine-horse field. The 4-year-old chestnut filly, owned by her breeder Peter Blum Thoroughbreds LLC, was a blowout winner of both the Chicago S. (G3) and Pink Ribbon S. in her two most recent starts. She has won seven of 11 lifetime outings and earned $1,489,535, making her one of nine millionaires by her sire.
In race 9, the $6 million Classic, Dreamlike faces his sternest test in his young career. The 3-year-old colt, who drew post 10 of 13, earned a trip to the 1 ¼-mile Classic after a narrow loss in the $1 million Pennsylvania Derby (G1), where he earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 104, a top-five number in the field. Bred by Winchell Thoroughbreds LLC, Dreamlike was purchased for $975,000 as a Keeneland yearling by his owners Repole Stable and St. Elias Stable LLC.
In race 11, the final Breeders’ Cup race of the day, the fleet-footed Gunite is in the outside post in the field of nine. Gunite was fourth in last year’s Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (G1). He has compiled an excellent resume in 2023, winning the Forego S. (G1) and a pair of listed stakes, as well as placing in graded races in both Saudi Arabia and Dubai. A Winchell Thoroughbreds LLC homebred, Gunite has earned $2,153,009.
Saturday’s Breeders’ Cup races can be seen on several TV outlets, streaming services and on breederscup.com.
