First Peace controlled a one-mile maiden special weight race from the outset Saturday at Santa Anita, winning stylishly by two lengths to become the latest First-Crop winner for Funtastic.
First Peace came out of the gate running to lead the field by a length going into the first turn. He led through a half-mile in a quick :45.95, then was pressed by Valiancer going into the final bend. First Peace shook him off and was in clear coming into the stretch. A late-closing Eastbound could get no closer than two lengths as First Peace stopped the timer in a solid 1:33.76 on the firm turf.
The winner is owned by Rodney Orr and was bred in Kentucky by Christopher Baker and Mullikin Thoroughbreds. The gray/roan is the first foal out of Peace Opportunity and is from the family of Luftikus, Street Sounds and Tower of Texas.
