Three Chimneys stallion Funtastic was represented by his first winner on Aug. 27 when Funtastic Again put away a pesky Triple Start in a $105,000 maiden special weight race Saturday at Saratoga, scoring by 6 ½-lengths in the one-mile race for 2-year-olds.
Funtastic Again is owned by Three Chimneys, who purchased the chestnut colt for $60,000 as a weanling at the 2020 Keeneland November sale.
Funtastic Again was sent to the lead almost immediately by jockey John Velazquez, leading Triple Start by a head after a half-mile in :48.48. The duo was still side-by-side coming into the homestretch, when Funtastic Again asserted himself and drew away smartly to win under a hand ride in 1:38.44 on a fast track.
The winner earned $57,750 in victory.
Bred by BHMFR, LLC, Funtastic Again is out of Repeta and is a half-brother to stakes winner Mucho Del Oro and Grade 2-placed Lady Glamour. Repeta has a weanling filly by Volatile.
Funtastic, who stands for $5,000 S&N, is a half-brother to both Horse of the Year Saint Liam and the dam of Horse of the Year and Three Chimney’s champion sire Gun Runner. Funtastic, a son of the recently deceased super sire More Than Ready, earned his biggest career win in the United Nations S. (G1).
