Gun It’s stellar maiden special weight win Dec. 22 at Fair Grounds earned the 2-year-old colt a coveted TDN Rising Star tag in what was his second lifetime start.

The Tapit colt was bred by Three Chimneys Farm in partnership with Besilu Stables, while he races for Whisper Hill Farm and Three Chimneys. He is out of Miss Besilu, who was also a Rising Star in her second career outing.

Ridden confidently by Rafael Santana, Jr., Gun It sat several lengths off the pace before commencing his move on the final turn. He cruised to the front in upper stretch and drew away effortlessly to win by 4 1/4-lengths under wraps, earning a very strong Beyer Speed Figure of 83.

Gun It is the first foal out of Miss Besilu, who has since produced a yearling colt by Candy Ride (Arg) and a weanling filly by Curlin. The 7-year-old mare was bred back to Into Mischief this year.

Multiple Grade 1-placed Miss Besilu is out of the blue-hen mare Quiet Dance, also the dam of Horse of the Year Saint Liam, this year’s United Nations S. (G1) winner Funtastic, who enters stud duty at Three Chimneys in 2019, as well graded stakes winners Quiet Giant and Congressionalhonor.
