Winchell Thoroughbreds and Three Chimneys Farm’s Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) winner Gun Runner will wrap up his career in the world’s richest race, the $16 Pegasus Inv. (G1), on Jan. 27 at Gulfstream Park.

Gun Runner, who will be ridden as usual by Florent Geroux, drew post 10 in the full field of 12, with two also-eligibles, in the 1 1/8-mile affair.

The Pegasus is to be Gun Runner’s last race prior to taking up stud duties this year at Three Chimneys, where he will stand for $70,000. A win on Saturday would boost Gun Runner’s earnings to nearly $16 million.

“I’ve always said you don’t know to complain about a post position until after a race is run,” Gun Runner’s trainer Steve Asmussen said after Wednesday’s draw. “So it might work out perfectly for him. The horse is doing extremely well, in the capable hands of Florent Geroux, and hopefully we’ll have a big day Saturday.”

Gun Runner has been training with Asmussen at Fair Grounds since his Breeders’ Cup victory. He recently shipped to Gulfstream, where he breezed four furlongs in :48 4/5 on Jan. 22.

The Pegasus is race 12 on Saturday, with a post time of 5:35 p.m. ET.
