Runnin N Gunnin and Enchanting both picked up key Road to the Kentucky Oaks qualifying points with their 1-2 finish in Sunday’s $250,000 Sunland Park Oaks.

The pair of Gun Runner fillies earned 20 and 10 points, respectively, after taking the top two spots in the one-mile contest for 3-year-old fillies.

The pre-race spotlight was on the Bob Baffert-trained Maysam, who wound up finishing a non-threatening sixth. Both Runnin N Gunnin and Enchanting were well off the early pace, with the eventual winner beginning her move for the lead with three furlongs to run. She took the lead for good with a quarter-mile to run, winning by 4 ¾-lengths. Enchanting rounded out the exacta with a big stretch run and was four lengths clear of the rest of the field.

Sunday’s race was the stakes debut for Runnin N Gunnin, who is now 3-0-0 and has earned $193,940 for owner Douglas Scharbauer. The dark bay filly sold to her owner for $250,000 at the 2023 Keeneland September Yearling sale. She was bred by Dixiana Farm and is a half-sister to multiple graded winner Alms and dual stakes winner Hallie Belle.

After a weekend that also saw Hall of Fame win the Mineshaft S. (G3) at Fair Grounds, Gun Runner now leads the 2025 General Sire list with over $2.3 million in progeny earnings and five stakes winners for the year.
