Optionality, bred and raced by Gun Runner’s owner Winchell Thoroughbreds, was an easy 6 ¾-length maiden special weight winner Oct. 26 at Indiana Grand.

The 2-year-old filly is the 17th First-Crop winner for her sire, who is leading the list with nearly $2 million in progeny earnings.

After an early duel, Optionality shook clear in upper stretch and was all alone in the final furlong as she coasted under the wire in 1:11.89 for the six furlongs on a fast track.

Optionality is out of the stakes winner Simplify, who has had six foals to race, five winners, including black type winner Simple Surprise, who is the dam of Gun Runner’s Hopeful S. (G1) winner Gunite. Simply has a yearling colt by Gun Runner as well.

After leading the First-Crop yearling sales at auction in 2020, Gun Runner currently tops the First-Crop sire list of 2-year-olds at auction this year, with an average of $306,285 to date. Three Chimneys recently announced his 2022 fee at $125,000 S&N.
