Life Talk became Gun Runner’s newest stakes winner on Dec. 2 at Aqueduct with a 3 ¾-length victory in the $250,000 Demoiselle S. (G2) for 2-year-old fillies.
Life Talk is the 16th stakes winner this year, with 12 of them graded stakes winners, for Gun Runner. His influence is being seen across the spectrum, as he leads the Third-Crop Sire list by a wide margin, and he ranks third on both the General Sire list and by Leading Sires of 2-year-olds.
Life Talk, who was third in the Frizette S. (G1) in October, was coming off a solid fourth-place finish in last month’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1). She got to the front before entering the first turn and led a fairly closely-bunched field through a half-mile in :48.65. She began to widen her margin around the final bend, then accelerated smartly through the stretch to win going away in 1:51.10 for the nine furlongs on a muddy racetrack.
“It is great to see her back in this performance,” said winning rider Irad Ortiz, Jr. “Because it was a great race [in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies]. Today, she was one hundred percent.”
The winner is trained by Todd Pletcher for Mike Repole, who purchased her for $335,000 at the 2022 Keeneland September Yearling sale. Life Talk is now 2-1-1 in five starts and has earned $364,250.
