Candy Aisle took the inside route to win the $100,000 Zia Park Princess S. Nov. 28 at the New Mexico track, giving the 2-year-old Gun Runner filly her second straight stake win.
After beating males in the Oct. 14 Manzano S. over the same track, Candy Aisle was back against her own sex in Tuesday’s six-furlong race.
Breaking from post seven, she worked her way to the inside for the backstretch run, sitting back off a very lively first quarter-mile of :21.88. After gaining some ground on the turn, she came through an opening at the top of the stretch to take the lead. The bay filly dug in gamely to hold off Tx Women for Arts by a neck in 1:09.27 on a fast track.
With the victory, Candy Aisle is now 2-0-0 in three starts and has earned $104,300 for her owners Randy Andrews, Jim Cone, Brad King and Lee Lewis.
Candy Aisle was bred by the Gun Runner Syndicate and C. W. Swann. Out of Rosalie Road, Candy Aisle sold for $250,000 at the 2021 Keeneland November sale and is a half-sister to five-time stakes winner Offering Plan.
Candy Aisle is one of Gun Runner’s 15 stakes winners this year, which includes 11 graded winners and three Grade 1 winners.
