Kid Azteca swept past First Peace at the top of the stretch on the Santa Anita turf course to tally a half-length maiden special weight win on the final day of September.
The striking gray 2-year-old colt is the 22nd winner for Sharp Azteca, which is five more than any other First-Crop sire. Sharp Azteca has also accounted for the winners of 27 races, six more than his competitors.
Kid Azteca was third early in the six-furlong race, ultimately beginning his winning move with about three furlongs to run. He came off the rail just before entering the stretch and took the lead from First Peace, who was stubborn in the lane, but could not keep up with the winner.
The final time was 1:08.27 on a firm turf course.
Kid Azteca is trained by Peter Miller for CYBT, Michael Nentwig and Richard Pell and was bred by Highclere Inc. in Kentucky. He sold for $130,000 at the 2022 OBS March 2-year-old sale.
