Will Take Charge, the leading First-Crop sire of yearlings with his average of $262,857, had his top yearling to date during Wednesday’s session of the Keeneland September Yearling sale when a colt brought a winning bid of $975,000.
Elm Tree Farm bred and consigned the colt, hip No. 564, with Willis Horton Racing the winning bidder.
“Mr. Horton loves Will Take Charge, obviously, and this colt reminded him a lot of Will Take Charge,” said Three Chimney’s CCO Case Clay. “He’s excited to have him. He (colt) stood like a statue. He did everything right throughout the whole process. He will go to Steve Asmussen to train.”
The colt is out of the Bernardini mare Oblige, dam of recent Bowling Green S. (G2T) winner Hunter O’Riley.
