Sky Mesa’s 3-year-old son Opportunistic captured the Sir Winston Churchill Derby Trial H. on Monday at Hastings Park, the third straight stakes win for the Kentucky-bred, who has not lost since joining Troy Taylor’s barn.
As he’s done in each of his stakes wins, Opportunistic rallied from off the pace, getting up in the last furlong to take the 1 1/16-mile contest by a half-length.
The winner is owned by Mark DeDomenico and North American Thoroughbred Horse Company and has now earned more than $109,000.
Sky Mesa, who stands at Three Chimneys Farm for $20,000 live foal, is the sire of more than a dozen stakes horses this year.
