Palace Miss’ three-length maiden special weight win Saturday at Churchill Downs made the 2-year-old filly the 17th First-Crop winner for Palace Malice, who is currently third on the freshman sire list with progeny earnings of $1,673,340.

In the one-mile race that was rained off the turf, Palace Miss broke from the outside in the field of 12. In the three path most of the way, she chased the leaders before making her bid with about a quarter-mile to run. Splashing to the lead, she opened up and was geared down under the wire on the sloppy track.

The winner is owned by Harold Lerner and was bred by Brent & Crystal Fernung, et al. He is the first runner out of the stakes-placed Sky Mesa mare Jelly Cable.
