Super Saks streaked to a front-running victory in Saturday’s Dream Supreme S. at Churchill Downs for her first stakes victory and become the 22nd black type horse this year for her sire Sky Mesa.
Sky Mesa’s stakes horses include Ami’s Mesa and Sky Flight, both $100,000 stakes winners in the past week.
Super Saks, trained by D. Wayne Lukas for Robert Baker and William Mack, took the lead right at the break of the six furlongs, and never looked back, prevailing by three parts of a length in 1:09.33 for the six fulrongs over a fast track.
“We wanted to see her get along on the dirt,” said Lukas. “She had been working so well on the dirt so I didn’t see how she wouldn’t run well on it today. We’re going to Oaklawn now and there’s a stakes there ($100,000 American Beauty on Jan. 23) toward the beginning of the meet so we’ll take a shot at that.”
Super Saks, who was stakes-placed as a maiden in the $100,000 Dixie Belle S., is now 4-0-1 in 14 starts and has earned $176,080. Bred in Kentucky by Kennelot Stables Ltd., she is out of Broadway Debut, a sister to Sport Page H. (G3) Voodoo.
