A colt by Sky Mesa brought one of the top 10 prices at the 2014 Keeneland April 2-year-olds in Training Sale, with trainer Mark Casse, as agent, placing the winning bid of $300,000.

Consigned by Becky Thomas’ Sequel Bloodstock, agent, the bay juvenile was cataloged as hip No. 69. He is out of the multiple graded stakes performer Alfonsia, by Grand Slam. The colt comes from the same family as Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1) winner Spain and the graded stakes winners Plan, Puerto Banus, and Fantastic Spain.

Sky Mesa, who is standing this year for $20,000 at Three Chimneys Farm, is the sire of 113 registered 2-year-olds of 2014. His first runner from that crop was a debut winner at Keeneland April 5 in the track’s first juvenile maiden special weight contest of the spring meet.
