Fly So Pretty soared past the entire field in the final quarter-mile of the $100,000 Stewart Manor S. at Aqueduct to win the six-furlong turf contest by a half-length.
The 2-year-old filly is Sky Mesa’s ninth stakes winner this year, with four of them winning 2-year-olds, led by the multiple graded stakes-winning filly Perfect Alibi.
Fly So Pretty, a Tracy Farmer homebred, broke her maiden on the turf at Saratoga in July, then tried a mile at the unique Kentucky Downs turf course in August before turning back to sprinting for Sunday’s race. Last of nine for the first four furlongs, the chestnut filly moved from inside to out entering the stretch and kicked into high gear to roll to the win in 1:09.16
“She put in a very big run at the end,” said winning rider Joel Rosario. “I was a little bit farther back than I wanted, but it looked like they were going quicker up front. I was able save ground and when we came out, she was moving.”
Fly So Pretty is the first foal out of the stakes-placed La Rambla and hails from the family of Grade 1 winner Adieu.
