Just Be Kind made up some eight lengths in the final quarter-mile to win the $50,000 Minaret S. on Feb. 17 at Tampa Bay Downs in spectacular style (VIDEO).

This marked the second stakes win for the 4-year-old Sky Mesa Filly, who was making her first start of 2018. She won the $125,000 Ontario Debutante at two, and was twice stakes-placed as a 3-year-old. She has now won $184,851 for owner/trainer Reade Baker.

Well off the pace early on in the six furlong affair, Just Be Kind began to make up ground with three furlongs to run. She really kicked into high gear in mid-stretch, blowing by the field to win by 1 1/4-lengths in 1:10.59.

“We knew she was ready. Mr. Baker always has his horses well-prepared, and she was in top condition. We were hoping for a little luck, and we got it,” assistant trainer Martine Pare said.

Just Be Kind was bred by John Oxley and is a full sister to D R C’s Pretty Sky, a two-time stakes winner of over a quarter-million dollars.

In addition to Just Be Kind’s win, Sky Mesa was represented yesterday by Thundering Sky, who was a game second in the $200,000 Buena Vista S. (G2) at Santa Anita Park.
