Sky Promise, a multiple graded stakes winner last year at three, earned his fourth career stakes victory Saturday at Canterbury Downs with a 5 1/2-length score in the John Bullitt S.
The 4-year-old son of Sky Mesa is now 6-3-3 in 23 starts and has earned $340,589, with wins in the Canadian Derby (G3) and British Columbia Derby (G3). He is owned by Rick & Clayton West, R 6 Stable and Norman Tremblay.
Facing just three foes, Sky Promise nevertheless dropped back to last and was some 10 lengths from the top three after a half-mile in :48.29. Kicking into high gear midway on the final turn, he blew past the trio at the top of the stretch and drew off to win with complete authority.
Sky Promise continued Sky Mesa’s hot September that kicked off on the first of the month when Perfect Alibi won the Grade 1 Spinaway S. at Saratoga. The Three Chimneys stallion now has a total of 14 stakes horses this year, with progeny earnings just under $4 million.
