Sky Treasure struck gold in the $211,200 Nassau S. at Woodbine in Saturday with a last-to-first move to win the one-mile turf affair for fillies and mares by one length.
The 5-year-old Sky Treasure is one of Sky Mesa’s 11 stakes horses in 2015, a group that includes Grade 2 horse Dynamic Sky and multiple stakes winner Brady Blue Eyes.
Next to last going at the midpoint of the race, Sky Treasure went three wide under Gary Boulanger around the bend, sweeping to the lead and forging to the front inside the final sixteenth of a mile to score her first stakes win.
“She’s always been a really nice filly, closing,” said Boulanger. “I always thought a lot of her, and didn’t get to ride her a whole bunch. She has a big move if you ride her right. I got a perfect trip through the turn, and I really hadn’t asked much of her. I split horses, got outside of (Deceptive Vision), and she gave me a gear and spurted right by her. It worked out great for us today.”
Sky Treasure, owned by John Oxley, banked $120,000 while improving her record to 4-2-2 from 15 starts. She placed in both the Bessarabian S. (G2) and Royal North (G3) at Woodbine last year.
The winner was bred in Kentucky by Ed Seltzer and hails from the same family as millionaire and Canadian Turf champion Bold Ruritana.
