Sky Mesa, long known as a leading 2-year-old sire, had one of his most impressive winners of the year on Saturday at Monmouth Park when the colt Meru drew off with complete authority to score an emphatic six-length win in a five-furlong maiden special weight race (VIDEO).

On the muscle from soon after the break, Meru raced alongside Embolden until the top of the lane, when he accelerated away easily to score the stylish win and earn a TDN Rising Star nod while covering the distance in :57.32 for Colts Neck Stables.

Bred by Godolphin, Meru was a $300,000 purchase by his owner from the 2019 OBS Spring Sale of 2-year-olds in Training. He is the first foal out of Lady Lavery, whose Sky Mesa half-sister Skylighter won the Indiana Oaks (G2) and DuPont Distaff S. (G2).
