Mount Asgard won a hard-fought battle in Monday’s $50,000 CTHS Sales S. by a neck over Just Jimmy to get his second win in as many starts.
The 2-year-old son of Sky Mesa won his debut on Aug. 10 before tackling his first added-money event. Employing similar tactics, Mount Asgard was within a length of the leader early on, then made a bid on the turn to vie for the lead. He and Just Jimmy raced as a team down the stretch, with Mount Asgard getting the better of his foe in the final strides.
The winner was bred by Black Canyon Thoroughbreds LTD and is owned by Willow Creek Farms.
Mount Asgard is Sky Mesa’s 75th lifetime stakes winner and one of his 145 worldwide black type horses. With more than $64.5 million in lifetime progeny earnings, Sky Mesa is among the top 20 active sires in North America.
