First-Crop sire Volatile got his second winner on July 7 at Prairie Meadows when the first-time starter Gunite Max cruised to a 3 ½-length maiden special weight victory at 4 ½-furlongs [WATCH RACE].
The bay filly, trained by Travis Murphy, came away very well out of the gate and was a length behind pacesetter Jackie Sparrow after a furlong. Gunite Max rolled past the early leader on the turn and was in complete control of the race turning for home. She was very professional in the stretch, covering the final furlong in under six seconds, and came under the wire an easy winner in :52.37 on a fast main track.
Gunite Max is owned by her trainer in partnership with Matt Trent and was bred in Kentucky by Woodford Thoroughbreds, LLC. Gunite Max is the first foal out of Super Simple, who is a half-sister to stakes winners Optionality and Simple Surprise, the latter who is the dam of Gun Runner’s Grade 1 winner Gunite.
Volatile, winner of the Grade 1 Alfred G. Vanderbilt S., entered stud at Three Chimneys in 2021. In his first three seasons at stud, he averaged 167 mares bred. Last year at auction his yearlings averaged $125,431, topped by a $1.15 million filly. Volatile’s 2024 fee is $15,000 S&N.
