The second week of the Keeneland September Yearling sale got off with a bang on Sunday for Will Take Charge when a colt from the first crop of the Three Chimneys stallion brought a winning bid of $500,000.
Anderson Farms, agent, consigned hip No. 1846, which went to IEAH. The colt’s dam, Smart Believer, is out of Hollywood Starlet (G1) winner I Believe In You and is a half-sister to Grade 2-placed Believe in A. P.
Earlier on Sunday, Will Take Charge had a $310,000 colt when hip No. 1787, consigned by Betz Thoroughbreds, Inc., went to Jim Bakke. The colt’s stakes-winning dam Pious Ashley is a half-sister to to the stakes winner Hello Liberty.
Prior to Sunday’s session, Will Take Charge was the leading Freshman yearling sales sire with an average of $219,911 from 34 lots sold. He has 36 lots remaining in the Keeneland sale, which runs through Sept. 23.
